Wake up with birds singing and completely surrounded by nature in this beautiful Ecological Reserve, so exceptionally rich in endemic and threatened species.
The Chaparri Ecological Reserve, named after the impressive mountain that dominates the region is the first Private Conservation Area in Peru, being owned by the rural community of Santa Catalina de Chongoyape and managed by Peru’s most renowned photographer, Heinz Plenge.
The Reserve supports over 194 bird species, of which 36 are endemic and 5 are threatened with extinction; the most notable being the White-winged Guan, which is critically threatened and the subject of a successful reintroduction program in Chaparri, thanks to the commitment of the local community who have opted to conserve and sustainably manage their natural resources.
Chaparri offers the visitor good birding and is undoubtedly an amazing place to find rare and unique species like the Tumbes Tyrant or the elusive Purple Collar Woodstar Hummingbird.
