The Paracas Reserve and the Ballestas Islands
The Paracas National Reserve is a rich coastal ecosystem with a 335,000 ha. extension that comprises desserts, beaches, islands, cliffs and sea. This State protected natural area is, among its staggeringly beautiful rock formations, the refuge to fur seals, sea otters, sea lions, penguins, dolphins, and more than two hundred species of birds such as flamingos, waders and guano birds.
We strongly recommend the sail trip to the Ballestas Islands, where you’ll be able to appreciate a great quantity of sea lions and guano birds in their natural habitat, within a beautiful scenario.
Adventure at the Huacachina Oasis
The Huacachina Oasis is a must stop for all travelers. It is a beautiful oasis situated among the sand dunes just a few minutes away from Ica. For the more adventurous ones, this is a great place to practice sandboard and buggy rides in its gigantic dunes.
Traditions and Colonial Haciendas of Ica
You can also visit the haciendas with their vineyards and bodegas like Tacama and Ocucaje, where you can learn about the traditional long-time used techniques for the production of Pisco and wine. The Wine Festival (Festival de la Vendimia), in March, is a celebration of the abundance of grapes and wine in the region of Ica, where persevering efforts in local vineyards have spread greenery across vast tracts of once bone-dry desert.
It involves fairs, competitions, processions of floats, musical festivals, parties where guests dance the Afro-Peruvian festejo and the Queen of the Vendimia beauty pageant.
