You can go to Trujillo by airplane or bus, and then go to Chan-Chan by car.
Sights & Activities:
Visit the UNESCO`s world heritage site of Chan Chan in the province of Trujillo: a fortress on the coast made entirely of adobe, which has resisted the beating of a strong desert climate for hundreds of years.
South of Trujillo is Lambayeque. The province is home to the tombs of the Lord of Sipan, at the Huaca Rajada in Chiclayo. Sipan was a king who ruled the north of Peru before the Inca’s reigned.
Move east and visit Cajamarca: a city in the highlands that offers colonial cathedrals, Inca baths, archeological sites and bizarre stone forests. Stop over at the Cumbemayo archeological site and witness a work of engineering way ahead of its time: The aqueduct; or enjoy the Carnaval, an annual celebration where people from all over the country gather to celebrate Peruvian culture. Colorful parades, folk music and people with water balloons, paint and talc, looking to spread the carnivals joy are among what you can find.
Pass through the Andes Mountains onto the jungle and visit the Kuelap fortress, made by the cloud forest people of Chachapoyas. This is one of the greater archeological sites in the Americas and can only be compared in size to Machu Picchu. Close to the ruins are the Gocta waterfalls, the 5th tallest waterfall in the world.
