Machu Picchu (Quechua word that means Old Mountain) is considered to be one of the most extraordinary examples of scenic architecture and one of the new seven wonders of the world, it was built between 1430 A.D. and 1440 A.D. by the Inca’s.

Also known as the Lost City of the Incas or the Fable City, people consider it to be a mystical place that exudes vital energy. Machu Picchu (at 2,400 m.a.sl. / 7,872 f.a.s.l.), is remarkable for its solid construction, its well-balanced use of space and the harmony of the design with its natural surroundings. Its nature diversity is an enjoyable abundance of beauty. Machu Picchu is perfectly located in the upper jungle containing ten life zones and two eco regions.

The city of Machu Picchu itself was built at the top of a granite mountain. The Incas, using ingenious engineering techniques, were able to transport heavy stone blocks up the mountain side, and once there, they used their excellent masonry skills to produce amazingly polished stones that fit together perfectly using every space in harmony with function.

There are two main sections: the urban area, which includes temples, palaces, stairways, and fountains; and the agricultural area made up of huge stairs called Andenes and various types of terraces for cultivation.

Cruz Inca recommends for your experience first to witness the sunrise at the Watcher’s House, walk to the Intipunku (Sun Gate) and to hike Wayna Picchu, the Sanctuary’s Sacred Mountain.
