Day 1: Arrival to Lima

Arrival to the city of Lima. You will be welcomed at the Airport by your travel consultant. Transportation in a comfortable van to your hotel in Lima.


At your hotel, you will receive a briefing from me and your Travel Consultant to the experience and a Welcome Kit that includes your Travel Itinerary with the complete information you need for your experience in Peru and more information of references and recommendations.


The rest of the day is free to enjoy Lima at your own pace. We recommend walking with your travel consultant to Larcomar, a nice and modern ocean-view touristic mall to the Pacific Ocean.

Day 2: Flight to Tambopata

Transportation to Lima’s airport to take your flight to the city of Puerto Maldonado. At your arrival you will be welcomed by a special nature guide-biologist that will take you to the port to board a motor boat.


You will travel for about three hours along the Madre de Dios River to the Tambopata National Reserve, one of the largest in Peru. During this trip, you will be able to see some bird species around the trees and shores of the river. At your arrival to the Refugio Amazonas Lodge, you will have a rest and a introductory walk around the lodge. The rest of the afternoon is to enjoy at leisure.


After dinner, you will have a nocturnal boat ride in search for Caimans and other nocturnal species. Once this activity is over, you will return to the lodge to rest.


Day 3: Tambopata Research Center

Early at dawn, you will have a visit to a 25 meters high tower. This tower is very easy and secure to climb, using small internal stairs with handles on each side and with small platforms every two meters.


From the top of the tower, you can see a spectacular view of the tree tops and all the birds and wildlife that dwell on the trees like toucans and macaws.


After breakfast, you will visit the beautiful old growth patch of Brazil Nut forest that has been harvested for decades (if not centuries). You will witness the whole process of the rainforest’s only sustainably harvested product from collection through transportation to drying.


On the afternoon you will embark on a four-hour river journey to the Tambopata Research Center Lodge, located in the heart of the reserve where wildlife sightings will be more often. At your arrival you will have a short rest and a very important orientation and introduction about the lodge.


You will have the afternoon to hike around the shores of the Tambopata River. Being able to enjoy amazing landscapes. The trail goes through an old Bamboo forest, the habitat of several monkey species.


Once the activities are over, you will go back to the lodge for dinner and rest.


Day 4: Tambopata National Reserve

Early in the morning you will have a visit to the Macaw Claylick, a special place where thousands of birds like macaws, parrots and parroquetes gathers to eat in a great natural wall made of clay making a one of a kind show of colors and sounds.


After lunch, you will have a boat ride to a platform near a small lake. In this lake you will find lots of bird species and you will enjoy a marvelous sunset. Then you will return to the lodge for dinner.


At night you will have a nocturnal hike around the forest to look for nocturnal wildlife and enjoy the sounds of the rainforest.


Day 5: Condenado Lake

The morning is free to relax at the lodge or enjoy a hike around the forest close to the lodge. Then you will have a trekking on the Terra Firme, a trail leading to a swamp, on the way you will notice a change of habitat, as the trees grow smaller and thinner.


After lunch, you will depart from the Tambopata Research Center on a three hour boat ride to the previous lodge, the Refugio Amazonas.


Visit the Condenado Lake where you can have canoe rides on its waters and enjoy some of its amazing wildlife.


Once the activities are over, you will return to the lodge for dinner.
After dinner, you will have an interesting presentation about the dangers, opportunities and projects in the Tambopata National Reserve.


Day 6: Return to Cuzco

Boat trip back through the Madre de Dios River to Puerto Maldonado city.


Transportation to the airport to take your flight back to Lima.
