Day 1: Arrival to Lima

Arrival to the city of Lima. You will be welcomed at the Airport by your travel consultant. Transportation in a comfortable van to your hotel in Lima.

At your hotel, you will receive a briefing from me and your Travel Consultant to the experience and a Welcome Kit that includes your Travel Itinerary with the complete information you need for your experience in Peru and more information of references and recommendations.

The rest of the day is free to enjoy Lima at your own pace. We recommend walking with your travel consultant to Larcomar, a nice and modern ocean-view touristic mall to the Pacific Ocean.

Night at the Hotel in Lima.

Day 2: Arrival to Manu National Park

Transportation to Lima’s airport to take your flight to the city of Cuzco.

Leaving Cusco around 7:00am on a thirty-five minute flight in a radar-equipped twin engine plane takes you to Boca Manu. Here you take a motorized canoe for a 90 minute journey down the Madre de Dios River to Manu Wildlife Center to arrive for lunch.

The afternoon will be spent exploring some of the 30 miles of clean forest trails that surround the lodge. On these trails you have an excellent chance to encounter some of the 12 species of monkeys, which include the Monk Saki and Emperor Tamarin, which inhabit the surrounding forest.

After dinner you will have a short night excursion to explore nocturnal life in the rainforest.

Day 3: Manu National Park

Rising before dawn; you’ll take a 25 minute boat journey downstream to the only large parrot and macaw clay lick in the Manu area. From a floating catamaran you will have excellent views and photo opportunities of hundreds of medium-sized and large parrots arriving first at the lick, followed by the large Red-and-Green Macaws arriving to eat the clay.

*Note:
The clay lick activity reaches its best at October, allowing more bird sights and excellent photo opportunities.

After lunch at the Center you’ll continue to explore the forest trails surrounding the lodge, and spend the late afternoon up a 34 meter canopy platform. Here, you’ll watch the last frantic activity in the rainforest canopy before night settles.

Return to the Center for dinner or pack a meal for a leisurely hike about 60-75 minutes through the night forest to the Amazon’s largest known Tapir clay lick. Here you’ll climb a 17 by 17 foot observation platform perched almost 20 feet above the lick itself.

Day 4: Manu National Park

After another early morning departure by boat and short hike from the river, you have what promises to be an exciting visit to Blanco Oxbow Lake. This lake has populations of a variety of aquatic life and water birds, including the prehistoric-looking hoatzin and the possibility to see the resident family of giant otters.

After returning for lunch at the Center your guide is available to further explore the forest trails for more wildlife encounters and photo opportunities.  This evening, from the late afternoon until after Dinner, you’ll have the opportunity to search for caiman and other nocturnal life along the riverbank by boat.

*Note:
The program may vary slightly so as to maximize your wildlife sightings, depending on the reports of the lodge’s researchers and naturalists guides.

Day 5: Activities at Juarez Lake

The day is free to enjoy trekking around the impressive trails of the Manu Lodge or enjoy some canoe trips searching for wildlife like monkeys, giant otters and almost 500 bird species. The immediate vicinity of the Juarez lake offers you easy and superb sightseeing of thousands of birds. All of them can be easily seen from the lake banks or from a comfortable catamaran.

Day 6: Manu National Park

After early breakfast, you’ll leave near dawn by motor canoe for a two hour return trip to the Boca Manu landing strip, taking advantage of valuable early morning wildlife activity along the river. From here you fly to Cusco. Arrival to Cusco and transfer to your hotel.

The day will be free to acclimatize. It is recommended that you relax and rest to become accustomed to the altitude. As part of the acclimatizing process, we recommend to take it easy this day with an introductory walk around the city.

Drinking coca tea at your hotel and restaurants is highly recommended to acclimatize to the altitude, you will feel the difference.

Night at the hotel in Cuzco city.

Day 7: Return to Lima

Transportation to Cusco’s airport to take your flight back to Lima city.
